BEGINNERS JAPANESE 101
  This 7-week course is designed for students who have little or no background in Japanese. The course will provide a solid foundation for the study of Japanese language focusing on daily greetings and basic conversation. The hiragana syllabary will be introduced as the foundation of Japanese pronunciation and grammar.

BASIC JAPANESE 102 ~ 105
  This course is designed for students who have completed the Beginners 101 course or those who have some knowledge of Japanese. Through the use of daily life situations supported by a study of sentence structure, the student will become competent in basic Japanese language skills. A total of 1,000 words will be studied in Beginners and Basic Japanese levels and the hiragana and katakana syllabaries will be mastered. Prerequisites: Beginners Japanese or the equivalent (based on evaluation interview). [* Class format (online/in-person) is tentative.]

INTERMEDIATE JAPANESE 200 & 300
  Intermediate 200, a continuation of Basic 105, this course focuses on general communication skills, and the ability to carry conversations on typical everyday situations by formulating complex sentences and utilizing frequently used vocabulary and sentence patterns. A total of 1,000 words and 100 kanji will be studied and students will be taught to understand polite language and idiomatic expressions. Prerequisite: Basic Japanese 105 or equivalent (based on evaluation interview).

  Intermediate 300, a continuation of Intermediate 200, focuses on acquiring more natural and effective ability in communication. In order to become capable of handling various occasions and topics, the ability to select appropriate words, phrases, and different expressions will be studied. Students will be taught to understand polite language and idiomatic expresssions. 1,100 new words and 150 new kanji will be introduced. Prerequisite: Intermediate Japanese 200 or equivalent (based on evaluation interview). [*Class format (online/in-person) is tentative.]

ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE JAPANESE 400
  A continuation of Intermediate 300, this course will narrow the gap between the intermediate level and the various study objectives of the student. Utilizing expressions studied in the Intermediate courses, this course focuses on conversing in varied situations and responding appropriately to conversation with others. Students will also be able to understand conversations with abstract terms. Texts, materials, and order of study will be determined by the objectives of the students. ADVANCED JAPANESE 500
  A continuation of Advanced Intermediate 400, this course focuses on meeting the specialized language needs of the student. For example, those in need of conversational study can participate in active conversation, or those in need of Japanese for the workplace can study the language skills necessary in business. Prerequisite: Advanced Intermediate Japanese or equivalent (based on evaluation interview).

For continuing students, the tuition for one session is $200 ($10 discount for early registration). For two consecutive sessions, the tuition is $370 ($30 discount). Payment can be made by clicking one of the following buttons for one or two sessions:

  Withdrawals: Tuition fees will be refunded if the student withdraws before the first day of class. All refunds are subject to a 5% cancellation fee. The registration fee of $30 is not refundable. A partial credit may be granted to a student who is forced to withdraw for reasons beyond his or her control. Partial credit will be granted for the portion of the session remaining after written notice of withdrawal is received. This credit may be applied toward registration for a subsequent course.
